i stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. i thank president bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

forty-four americans have now taken the presidential oath. the words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. at these moments, america has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents.

so it has been. so it must be with this generation of americans.

that we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

these are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land — a nagging fear that america's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

today i say to you that the challenges we face are real. they are serious and they are many. they will not be met easily or in a short span of time. but know this, america — they will be met.

on this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

on this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

we remain a young nation, but in the words of scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. the time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the god-given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

in reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. it must be earned. our journey has never been one of shortcuts or settling for less. it has not been the path for the faint-hearted — for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things — some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

for us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life.

for us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the west; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth.

for us, they fought and died, in places like concord and gettysburg; normandy and khe sahn.

time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. they saw america as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.

this is the journey we continue today. we remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on earth. our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. our capacity remains undiminished. but our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions — that time has surely passed. starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking america.

for everywhere we look, there is work to be done. the state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act — not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. we will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. we will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. we will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. and we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. all this we can do. all this we will do.

now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions — who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. their memories are short. for they have forgotten what this country has already done; what free men and women can achieve when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage.

what the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them — that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. the question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works — whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. where the answer is no, programs will end. those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account — to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day — because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control — and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. the success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on our ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart — not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.

as for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. our founding fathers ... our found fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. and so to all the other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that america is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.

recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. they understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

we are the keepers of this legacy. guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort — even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. we will begin to responsibly leave iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in afghanistan. with old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. we will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

for we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. we are a nation of christians and muslims, jews and hindus — and non-believers. we are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that america must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

to the muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. to those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the west — know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. to those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

to the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. and to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to the suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. for the world has changed, and we must change with it.

"let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet (it)."

然后我十七岁进了北京大学，那个真正是进入了青春期了。有一天我突然发现，世界上有这么多漂亮的姑娘，顿时觉得这个世界美好极了，人生美好极了。那个时候我写了很多很多诗，都是爱情诗，但是没有对象的。或者说看见一个可爱的女孩，就来写一首，其实我不认识她。她盯我一眼，我心跳半天，回去写一首诗。

这是一段时间。那么还有一段时光就是养孩子，自己当了父亲。有时候她妈妈看见我拿着奶瓶在那里给孩子喂奶，非常陶醉的样子，她就说：“你不要以为你在给孩子喂奶，这个奶水就是从你身上出来的。”我当时就回了她一句：“我说我真的感觉我整个变成了一个大奶瓶了。”但是毕竟不一样，她是真正用自己的身体在那里给孩子哺乳，我看的真是羡慕得不得了。

其实人生中的幸福，那些最本质的幸福是很简单、很平凡的。我们总是想去到远处寻找幸福，你可以去创造不平凡的事业，可以去创造卓越，去创造辉煌。但是，如果说你事业上非常风光，可是你的家庭生活一团糟，你根本没有时间跟自己的家人在一起，我觉得你的人生是有重大缺陷的。

无论你多么忙，都要和自己的家人一起吃晚饭，餐桌上一定要有笑声欢语，这个比有车有房有钱重要得多。一个人钱再多，他的车、他的房再豪华，如果没有这些，我说他是很可怜的，他在这个世界上是个孤魂野鬼。所以这是我讲的第一个观点，要珍惜平凡的生活。

你要享受生命，享受生命单纯的快乐。你要享受你的智力，享受老天给人的这些得天独厚的禀赋，这是做人的幸福。

我认为最重要的智力品质是什么？一个就是好奇心，对事物、对世界、对知识充满了兴趣。其实我在我女儿身上就看得很清楚，她小时候好奇心非常强烈。我的女儿啾啾，她四岁五岁的时候，她问她妈妈，她说：“妈妈，云的上面是什么？”妈妈说：“云的上面是星星。”她问：“星星的上面是什么？”妈妈说：“星星的上面还是星星吧。”她说：“我问的是最后的最后是什么？”妈妈说：“没有最后吧。”她奇怪了，她回过头来就问我，她说：“爸爸，这怎么会呢？”她指指我们家的天花板，她的意思说天也应该有个天花板吧？也应该有个最后吧？这个问的是什么问题？就是世界在空间上是有限还是无限的。

她又问她妈妈，她说：“妈妈，有一个问题你肯定回答不了。”妈妈说：“什么问题？”她说：“你告诉我世界的一辈子有多长？”这是世界在时间上有限和无限的问题。她又问，她说：“妈妈，世界上第一个人是从哪儿来的？”妈妈说：“中国神话里面说是女娲造的。”她马上问：“女娲是谁造的？”对生命、对人类的起源追根究底，这是典型的哲学性的追问。

那么又过了几天，她问我一个问题，她说：“爸爸，在世界的另一个地方，会不会还有另一个我？”我一听这个问题，我汗毛竖起来了。我说：“可能吧，说不定你还会遇到她呢。”她马上非常生气地打断我，她说：“不会的。”然后转过头去跟她妈妈说：“妈妈，有一天当你老了的时候。”实际上她是委婉地说，当你死了的时候。她说：“当你老了的时候，在世界的另一个地方，又会生存一个人来，那个人长得跟你完全不一样，但她就是你。”老天，她讲的是轮回，我的汗毛又竖起来了。

真的，孩子真不能小看，你们小时候一定也想过这种问题，提过这个问题，可能当时家长叫你不要胡思乱想。这哪是胡思乱想，这是最重要的问题，最根本的问题，想把人生的大问题弄清楚，要不生活得不踏实。有这种感觉的人，你就是有哲学天分的，看来我的女儿是有哲学天分的。但是自从进了小学以后，这样的问题就越来越少了，问的都是作业怎么做的问题了，一个哲学家就这样被扼杀了。

那么我们怎么样让孩子的聪明保持下来？教育到底要达到什么目的？现在的教育，它的目标太狭隘了，太可怜了。

英国有个哲学家叫怀特海，他说过一句话，他说什么是教育？教育就是等你把你在课堂上学的东西都忘记了，把你为考试而背诵的东西都忘记了，那剩下的东西就是教育。

所以，我经常也跟家长们谈，今天在坐的可能也有家长。做家长的应该怎么办？一条就是为素质教育加分，家庭里面最重要的教育就是熏陶。家长自己是一个爱生活的人，爱读书，爱思考问题，然后经常和孩子交流，在这样一个环境里面，孩子自然而然就会往那个方向发展，他的素质就会提高。

还有一点就是给应试教育减负，我的女儿啾啾，因为她在小学的时候基本上在班上都是第一第二，然后到了初中，排名就往下了一点，基本上是第四第五吧。我就说第四第五非常好，比第一第二好多了。我说：“你就保持这个，很好，爸爸非常满意。”然后有一次期末考试，不小心考了一个全年级第一，我就批评她了，我说：“你怎么考的？我们不是已经约定好了吗？你怎么就考了个第一，下不为例。”我是不想让她因为考了第一，然后就有压力了，以后还要争这个第一。

其实所有的家长都是爱孩子的，但是我觉得有些家长爱的方法不对，从幼儿园、小学、中学、大学直至以后那个工作，恨不得给他全部都安排好，他以为他这样做，就给了孩子一个美好的未来。我告诉你才不是呢！孩子的未来绝对不掌握在你的手里面，掌握在谁的手里面？掌握在孩子自己的手里。你要把孩子培养出一个好的素质、好的心态，让他既能自己去追求幸福、创造幸福，又能承受人生必不可免的苦难，这样你的教育就成功了。

另一家我们占全部股份的公司叫做淘宝，在场的大多中国人可能听过。我们有3亿多注册用户。淘宝起初是顾客到顾客的`电子商务模式，不过后来95%是企业到顾客的模式。六年前，我们开始与易趣竞争。易趣非常富有，那是他们的市场价就有800亿美元。他们打入中国市场，扬言要与阿里巴巴竞争，而我们那时白手起家，只占2%到3%的市场份额。淘宝集艾默生电气公司，易趣公司，谷歌与美国facebook网于一体。它是一个网上社区，每天有4300万的特殊访客在这里购物。我们每天能完成800万单交易。去年全中国共有20亿个包裹需要派送，而我们占了11亿，大约是市场份额的55%。淘宝发展的相当快。过去七年以来，我们的收益高达100%，今年我们也会努力做到这一点。

我们的第三家公司叫做支付宝系统，就像是网上银行，是个很愚笨的交易模式。五年前，我发现网上交易很难实行，因为人们无法相互信任。银行系统太不可信，金融基础设施也不可靠。于是我开始担心我该怎么做呢。银行获许可以进行网上交易，而我们，尽管知道如何去做，却没有获得法律许可。最后，人们说：“杰克，千万不要涉足金融界，不然你会坐牢的，金融在中国风险太大。”我答：“那就坐牢吧，我已决定了。”我们的工作很透明，任何情况都清清楚楚，以确保政府满意，人民舒心。然后，我们与中国七家银行都有良好的业务关系。今天我们支付宝已有4000万注册用户，成为最大的不使用任何企业模式的第三方电子支付平台。我们只想帮助人们，却惹恼了银行，因为我们分散了人们对企业模式的注意力。世界上大银行的收入，有60%到70%来自于服务；但在中国，有60%到70%甚至80%来自于借贷。因此，我们就深入到内部，集中于服务业务。

第四家公司叫做阿里数据计算处理俱乐部，于两年前创办。我们有中小型企业、淘宝客户以及支付宝用户的数据资料，这些数据影响重大，我们希望与客户分享，让他们了解中小型企业的资料和情况。所以我们有做时钟计算业务。

第五家公司叫做中国雅虎，五年前我们就耳熟能详。这就是阿里巴巴的构成。如今阿里巴巴已经上市，其他四家是私营企业。这样挺好。我们很幸运，能够想到在中国将艾默生，易趣以及网上银行组合起来。在中国70%的市场份额由电子商务占有，而它仍以飞快的速度发展。人们会问为什么我们的公司能够成功，为什么我能成功，我认为，主要原因之一在于我们始终坚信：客户第一，员工第二，股东第三。这是我们的首要原则，知道今天我们仍在坚持因为只有客户才是一直支持我们的坚强后盾。过去在中国主要有三大企业：一个是集中于传统模式的雅虎，还有今天的新浪、搜狐和网易，它们致力于新闻。但我认为除非在北京，不然新闻业很难做，况且我们永远也弄不明白政府的政策到底是怎样的。所以，我们决定放弃传统。第二大企业可以称得上是世界上最独特的企业，它致力于网络游戏。我不支持那种模式，而且我不喜欢它。因为在中国，如果家里所有的孩子都在玩网络游戏，那就糟了。我儿子和他的同学都很喜欢网络游戏。我觉得这一模式的确能赚很多钱，但我不希望我的孩子沉迷网络。所以我们不用那种模式。中国已有足够多的公司在做网络游戏了，几乎所有的网络公司都在干这一行。而我们是唯一一家不做网络游戏的公司。因此，我们唯一能做的也只有电子商务，这太难了。十年前国际电子商务模式为企业到企业，大公司才是宠儿，他们集中于买家。他们的宗旨是为买家减少成本，我们恰恰相反。我们知道美国是篮球巨子，而我们精于乒乓球，因为我们不能总把注意力放在一点上。因此，在中国我们不能着眼于大公司，而应立足于中小型企业。我们不应帮助买家而应为卖家着想，因为中国想要把国内的东西销往国外。中小型企业想要将产品出口。所以我们着眼于中小型企业，致力于帮助供应商。如此，宗旨也不在于节约成本了，因为中小型企业在这一点上比我们更有见地。他们只想知道通过什么渠道来出售，如何才能赚钱。然后我们便集中于中小型公司，供货商，为他们制造盈利的机会。这些才是我们一直坚持着的。头三年里我们没有任何固定的经营模式，没有任何收入，太艰难了。唯一能鼓励我们继续下去的只有信件，许多的致谢邮件。我们每周或每个月都会接收到成千上百万感谢邮件。人们感谢我们为他们创造了就业的机会，因为我们，他们的业务发展起来了。我们赚不到任何钱，但你们要知道，我们的客户有钱赚，那么我们也就开心了。到了第四年，我们便开始盈利了。而摆在第二位的是员工。我原本就不懂高科技，我甚至讨厌高科技。我妻子给我买了一部苹果手机，我到现在还不会用。我从未用过幻灯片演示，因为我不会用。每次我用它的时候，总会有哪个地方出现问题，我都不知该如何形容了。我原本只是个老师，对科技一无所知。关于计算机我唯一懂得的就是收发国外邮件，就这些，已经够用了，不是吗？世界上80%的人像我一样，他们不喜欢科技，因为我们不希望受制于科技，而想让科技为我们服务。

亲爱的同学们：

我向你们分享的是：“马云励志演讲稿：机会就在被抱怨的地方”。

能站在这里，我感到非常光荣和谦卑。我从来没想过这一生中会有机会来到联合国。非常感谢亚洲协会。

在十二岁的时候，我自己开始学英语，为了什么，自己也不知道，只是觉得爱上了这门语言。那时，每天早晨5点我会骑车40分钟，到杭州的酒店找外国游客，他们教我英语，我带他们游览城市作为交换。

从此以后，我开始有了个习惯，那就是用我自己的脑子来思考问题，多花几分钟。当所有人都说对的时候，等几分钟；当所有人都说不的时候，也等几分钟，仔细地想一下事情本身。因为当你从一个不同的视角看世界的时候，你也可能用不同的方式做事。

今晚，我深深地被所有这些创变者所鼓舞。在听他们的故事时，我意识到世界上有那么多事情我可以做，有那么多事情我能做得更好，有那么多事情我们能一起来做。今天我代表的不是自己，而是代表所有那些和我一起工作的小人物、小企业。

1995年离开大学的时候，我告诉校长，自己要做个创业者，做互联网。他问我：什么是互联网？我回答：我也不知道。他听我说了两个小时后说，jack，我知道你想有一番作为，我不懂你做的事情。不过如果十年后你想回来，那就回来。我说：好，十年以后，如果我想回来，我会回来的。作为一个老师，你永远会相信未来。你相信知识会改变人的生活，你相信并希望你的学生比你更优秀。学生是最好的产品。今天我不再是一个老师，但我相信在公司，ceo代表“首席教育官”。因为话很多，同事们不喜欢我。不过，我负责来说，他们负责做。

在我创业的那个年代，在中国做个小企业家非常困难，我花了5个月时间才借到500美元，而公司还是失败了。那时我没有机会，我也不知道怎样运营企业。我去注册第一家公司时，想取名叫互联网，注册办公室告诉我，不行，字典里没有这个词，你必须换个名字注册公司。他建议我使用计算机咨询公司，可是我连计算机是什么都不知道。所以我的第一个公司叫做杭州希望计算机咨询公司，那时很苦，我当时对科技和计算机一无所知。

过去十五年，我常常说自己是一个盲人骑在瞎老虎背上，不过那些骑在马上的专家都失败了，我们活了下来。因为我们考虑的是未来，我们相信未来，我们改变自己，我们从不抱怨别人。

我在我的公寓里告诉团队，我们必须证明自己，因为如果我们能成功，那中国80%的年轻人就都能够成功。我们没有有钱的父亲、有权的叔叔，我们没有从政府拿过一块钱，没有从银行拿过一块钱，我们从零开始。所以我必须努力工作，不仅是证明我们自己，也是证明我们这代人，证明互联网的力量。这就是我想和年轻人分享的。

另一个我深深相信的事情是：小就是美。如果没有帮助小人物，那么我就用互联网帮助小人物。跨国公司被华尔街照顾得很好，只有小企业没有任何人帮助他们。如果我们为他们创造价值，那我们就会成功。我们的哲学是：如果你帮助别人成功，你就会成功。我一直是相信未来的人，相信年轻人，相信创新。

就像秘书长说的，今天的世界麻烦很多，社会上充满了抱怨。我在20多岁的时候也抱怨。微软、ibm、思科，他们是大企业而我们是无助的小公司，他们太大了。那时，我们也抱怨过。但是现在我不再抱怨了，因为我们也变成大家伙之一了。

我想告诉年轻人的是，如果大部分人都在抱怨，那就是机会所在。有些人选择抱怨，而有些人选择改变自己，帮助改变别人。机会就在那些被抱怨的地方。我永远相信这点，我们也是这样一步步走到今天。

最后也是最重要的一个事情，那就是在座的所有人都会被送一件t恤。这是一件特别的阿里巴巴ipo的限量版t恤。所有这些t恤都是小人物制造，我们的小企业们。这是要给小人物，小就是美的，小就有力量。

印在t恤上的是很少人知道的阿里巴巴成功密码。就像芝麻开门一样，阿里巴巴也有一个密码，那就是：“梦想要有的，万一有天实现了呢？”
